This alternator tensioner is designed to make it easier to re-tension the Crank-H2O-Alternator belt on the Toyota 4AG-E. No more pry bars (or any other make shift levers for that matter) to tighten up the belt after replacing it and/or the alternator. With this alternator tensioner installed, all that's needed is a 13mm open end wrench. Just turn the buckle to add tension then lock in place by securing the jam nuts.
